Grammy Awards 2019: Ariana Grande takes home her first trophy, Drake gives a serious speech and Lady Gaga slays Shallow


The 61st annual Grammy Awards, which are being held at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, are proving to be quite entertaining with great performances by Lady Gaga, Diana Ross, Travis Scott, Dua Lipa and Camila Cabello. And with Cardi B becoming the first rapper since 2004 to win the Best Rap Album award, the night is becoming a record maker for many. She competed against Drake and Kendrick, who produced the Black Panther soundtrack album. The rappers were leading the field of nominees with eight and seven nods, respectively. Also, hosting the event for the first time is 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys. Meanwhile, Dolly Parton was honoured ahead of the Grammys with a commemorative performance by multiple artistes. They included Pink, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry, among others.

Lady Gaga performed Shallow

Lady Gaga sang her nominated song from A Star Is Born, Shallow.

Drake won Best Rap Song

Drake gave a heartfelt speech in which he said, “You already won if you have people singing your songs word for word, if they’re singing in your hometown. You’re already winning, you don’t need this right here.” He won the Best Rap Song award for God’s Plan.

Host Alicia Keys performed a medley of her songs as she played the piano on stage.

Cardi B was in her element as she performed in an animal print bodysuit.

Singer H.E.R. performed her song Hard Place. The singer in her shiny purple outfit and dark sunnies was quite a sight.

Miley Cyrus came back on stage to perform with her godmother and singer Dolly Parton on her song Jolene. Dolly was later joined on stage by Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves.

Kacey Musgraves won the best country album

Kacey Musgraves won the Best Country Album award for Golden Hour. She also won best country solo performance for Butterflies and best country song for Space Cowboy.

Singer Post Malone was accompanied on stage by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea and Anthony Kiedis for a performance.

Kylie Jenner shared a kiss with singer boyfriend Travis Scott.

Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Shallow

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Shallow from their film A Star Is Born. “I’m so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues. … A lot of artists deal with that. And we gotta take care of each other,” she said in her acceptance speech.

AR Rahman attended the ceremony
