Jerry Springer To Return To TV

It’s only been six months since production stopped on the Jerry Springer Show after 27 years, and already the veteran talk show host is getting set to return to TV. It was announced yesterday that the former mayor of Cincinnati will star in Judge Jerry, a syndicated court show.

Judge Jerry will be distributed by NBCUniversal, and in it Springer will preside over legal disputes, in the vein of popular shows Judge Judy and The People’s Court. In a released statement, NBCUniversal exec Tracie Wilson said “‘Judge Jerry’ will merge Jerry’s talent for connecting with people, his incredibly relatable and funny personality and his legal training and governing experience to bring viewers a more entertaining court show. We are so happy to continue our fantastic partnership with Jerry, who is a proven TV icon with a dedicated and broad fan base.”

While Springer has never been a judge during his career, he does have a law degree and was a practicing lawyer from 1973 to 1985. Springer himself said about the show “For the first time in my life, I am going to be called honorable. My career is coming full circle and I finally get to put my law degree to use after all these years.”

At one point, Springer’s TV show was the most popular TV talk show, even more popular that Oprah.

Judge Jerry will be taped in front of a live studio audience, and will begin airing next fall.
