Some big names are heading to Toronto in September once again for the annual Toronto International Film Festival, and buzz is already starting to grow. From films starring Lady Gaga, Robert Pattinson, Hugh Jackman and Julia Roberts to films that have long be considered to be possible Oscar contenders for next year, TIFF 2018 seems to have it all. Of course the big thing still missing are the opening and closing films, which will be coming soon.
Among the films announced this morning are Bradley Cooper’s remake of A Star is Born, starring himself and Lady Gaga, Jason’s Reitman’s The Front Runner starring Hugh Jackman, Ben is Back which stars Julia Roberts and looks at America’s opioid crisis, and Beautiful Boy which stars Steve Carell and Timothy Chalamet and follows the story of a deteriorating relationship between a father and his drug addict son. Also among the highlights are The Sisters Brothers based on the novel by Canadian Patrick deWiit, Steve Mcqueen’s new film Widows, and First Man which stars Ryan Gosling as astronaut Neil Armstrong.
More films will be announced on August 1st, which is the date TIFF is holding a press conference to announce their full Canadian lineup. TIFF 2018 runs from September 6 – 16.
